The Numbers

THE NUMBER ONE

The singularity

Each of us live our lives, perceive and interact with the world around us in a way that is uniquely singular and alone, completely subjective. In the final analysis our own existence is the only fact we can be completely certain of. All this begin with this single one, this singularity, and it will be this that has an effect on everything it encounters, resulting in the creation of things that are truly unique.

THE NUMBER TWO

The binary

Every thought, idea or concept implies its opposite, all activity in the material world results from the interaction of these two opposites, the binary. Each is mutually exclusive and contradictory, leading to the paradox of existence. All pain and suffering in the world results from the conflicts of these opposites, and only through a balance between the two can we achieve the creation of stable forms. Only in this way can we create peace.

THE NUMBER THREE

the trinity

The balance of opposites can only occur through the action of a third force that can reconcile the two. Binaries can only be neutralized through the application of this third, neutral force, forming an upright triangle. Conversely, if the third force re-enforces the conflict between opposites by holding the two forces apart, it can be represented as a downward triangle.

THE NUMBER FOUR

the elements

The four dominant forces of the spirit are symbolized by the four hermetic elements; earth, air, fire and water. These are not the constitutes of matter, a mistake made by many medieval scholars, they are actually primal forces of the spiritual world. They combine to create all of our thoughts and emotions. Peace can be attained when these forces are in balance.

THE NUMBER FIVE

influence

The influence of a singularity, acting upon the four elements, are a manner in which an individual can act upon the world. A specific element can be evoked by our actions, which in turn can influence the world. The other elements will then act to restore balance, resulting in a change that will affect the entire system.

THE NUMBER SIX

Balance

Two interlocking triangles, one a positive, evolutional triad pointing up, the other a negative triad pointing down, creates a more complex manifestation of a primal binary conflict, but it is now within our power to use our influence to choose which of the two forces will take effect, either the evolutionary force which improves our lives, or the negative force which will only perpetuate the conflict.

THE NUMBER SEVEN

Progress

Progress is achieved through the deliberate choice of the of the upright, evolutionary triangle, which informs the four elements, and empowers the expansion of a positive, growing force that will ripple out from our lives and have a powerful impact on the world at large. The choice of the negative trinary can only result in chaos and destruction.

THE NUMBER EIGHT

Intelligence

Intelligence is the aspect of our nature that informs all of our choices. It must be called upon to inform and advise all of the power of the first seven concepts through careful reflection on the past and the eternal process of learning. It is what guides all our choices, and leads all these forces towards to a specific, positive goal, and determines if this goal is the one desired.

THE NUMBER NINE

Wisdom

There are three specific aspects to each individual, represented by three triads; the planes of the body, the mind and the spirit. One who has achieved wisdom can make choices that and exert influence on each of these three aspects, and direct the interaction between them. One with wisdom knows that the influence of one of these triads affects the other two.

THE NUMBER TEN

Unity

Through the application of wisdom , we become whole and complete, as all the previously described concepts becomes a parts of the individual, forming a new singularity. Each concepts re-enforces and balances the others. This is how the conceptual matrix is formed . Each concept has its place and they interact with each other in a subtle and complex manner. It is a singularity once again and is ready to evolve once more into a wider cycle, a larger environment with renewed purpose and greater power.

THE ELEMENTS

EARTH

It is solid, unyielding matter. Thoughts can be fixed in permanent form through action performed on the material plane, routine and ritual become material through constant repetition  until they are etched indelibly on the human soul. . It is the pattern that forms life out of inanimate matter, and it is matter that it becomes after death. It is pattern, the force that gives thoughts their permanence , it is It is the order that staved off chaos and is the crux of meaning and significance.

FIRE

Fire represents pure unbridled energy, it is the key to both creation and destruction, one always involves the other. It is anger, rage and violence, but  it is also passion and all intense feelings ,whether positive or negative, creative or destructive. Without its energy there is inertia and stagnation. It represents change in the most drastic and fundamental nature. It is activity, motion, the primal force that gives life purpose and the power behind all patterns of thought.

AIR

It is ephemeral, shifting from moment to moment. It is the realm of concepts and ideas. They waft by, like the stars in the sky. All you need to do is reach out and snatch them from the ether before they are wafted away. It can be shaped by the will into thought constructs, mental experiments . Alone, without the pattern and the stability of earth, these patterns will vanish , and be replaced by countless variables, countless notes to haunting songs now forgotten.

WATER

A still, reflective pool, a crystal clear pond whose reveals secrets, hidden truths, but also lies and deception. Beneath the surface lies the depths of the human soul. Its waters can restore life, can heal and invigorate, but only in the midst of a strange disturbing dream, a deep sleep where there is no pain, but also no passion and drive. It is where you may be entranced by your own reflection, at which you stare as the years drift by without meaning , as you slowly age, then pass away, carried by the water flowing past your feet.
